We need mental health reform. Our society has a stigma surrounding mental health. There is a notion that people are crazy, or unstable, or weak minded. That’s not really the case. From depression to anxiety to PTSD, mental health plays an important role in our lives. Mental health can also affect physical health. Not all people have the proper coping mechanisms or support systems that others have. So what do we do?
There are options that we can do and Congress must act. Our vision for mental health reform includes:
—Breaking the stigma (public awareness, and education) —Enforce mental health parity (insurance companies find loopholes to deny mental health treatment) —More effective resources (institutions, public organizations, encouraging more professionals to partake in mental health care)
